But love is so valuable, so important, that apart from it, every other good thing is useless. Rather, this rich chapter points to both the challenges and rewards of self-giving love. Instead, love rejoices in the truth. Heaven is precious to us for many reasons. He knows everything there is to know about us, even what we do not see or understand about ourselves. Tongues are good, prophecy and knowledge and faith are good, sacrifice is good. This is why Paul regards love for God rather than wisdom or knowledge as evidence of having not received the spirit of the world; rather we have received the Spirit of God (1 Corinthians 2:12). Without this, the most glorious gifts are of no account to us, of no esteem in the sight of God.
